Mdm Retnavalli Ammaiyar Graces Ponggal Festival in MBSSKL
The Ponggoal Festival in MBSSKL was celebrated in a very colourful and meaningful way on 14 March 2009. Though slightly delayed by the rain in the morning, this did not stop the Indian Cultural Society in making the event a successful one. MBSSKL was proud to have Mdm Retnavalli Ammaiyar in officiating this year’s festival. In her speech, she gave very strong advice to the students on studies and good behaviour to secure a good future. She also pledged a donation to the school. MBSSKL greatly appreciates the her kind and generous donation and looks forward to her future visits. The air of Ponggal festival was filled with Kolam decoration, Kabbadi games, dances like Mayil Attam (traditional peacock dance) and Bharata Natyam, and traditional Indian Drum performance (Urumi Melam).
The Ponggol festival is celebrated on the first day and first month of Thai, in the Tamil calender. It is also known as the harvest and thanksgiving festival.
