Debate: MBSSKL Has Done It Again!
On the 23rd to 25th of July, MBSSKL sent 2 teams to fight in the war of words and wits with 80 other teams coming from different schools nationwide. The 1st National British Parliamentary Inter High School Debating Championship 2010 saw MBS team A which consisted of Vigknaraja and Michael Fork and MBS team B which was formed by Quah Zhong Yao and Chong Ther Zen appearing confident with the debating skills they possess. The term British Parliamentary might seem unfamiliar to most school students, but our debaters are equipped with the necessary skills after participating various university debating championships. After the end of 5 preliminary rounds which involved subjects like education, social issues, local and international politics, team MBS A managed to emerge as the first team with the highest score. Team MBS B tried their best, entering the double –quarters with much of the MBS spirit, determined to deliver the best of their best. During the breaking rounds, team MBS A met even more challenging teams, from SMJK Chung Hua, SMK Katholik and SMK Sri Permata. During the finals, when the motion “This House Believes that Student Gang Members Should be sent to Henry Gurney even if no crimes have been committed” was released, school teams from SMK Sri Permata, SMK Sains Sri Puteri and SMK Saint George were all vying to grab the champion title. After an hour of grueling debate, MBS team A was announced as the champion. Vigknaraja was also announced as the 9th overall best speaker, with his partner, Michael Fork grabbing the title of the 8th overall best speaker. They also won in cash RM$2,000 and a 100% scholarship for any pre-university program sponsored by KDU college. They also brought home the Champion trophy. Go forward MBS!
