It was a year when examination records fall like ten pins. Never before MBSSKL breached the 3.0 mark in the average grade for the SPM. We did and the average grade was 2.76 (the lower the better) putting us ahead of all partially controlled schools like CBN, VI, St John’s and the Seri Bintang Schools. At the SPM award ceremony at the State Education Department, MBSSKL bagged a record 6 prizes. Subjects like English Literature, Moral Studies, History, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics were at historical best, by a wide improvement compared to previous years. A total of 19% of the students scored straight A’s and another 58% scored 5A’s and above. Five students had 9A+ or more. For a detailed analysis of the results from 2001-2011, click here.

The STPM 2011 results which were announced recently saw two MBSSKL students, Eric Khong and Lim May Teng making national headlines. They were amongst the top 12 students in the nation with 5A’s. Though the school Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at 2.75 was slightly lower than last year’s, it was one of the best in MBSSKL history. Though there was a slight improvement in the percentage of students scoring at least a CGPA of 3.0 (at 50.9%) compared to 2010, there was a slight drop in the percentage of students with at least a CGPA 2.0. Most subjects showed improvement, especially Physics which saw a historical 100% passes and about a quarter of the students scoring A. Once again, MBSSKL is ranked a 5 star Smart School by the Ministry of Education under the Smart School Qualifying Standards (SSQS) for 2011. This advancement is mainly self made, as we are not entitled to many privileges of other government schools like the computer laboratory, the self-access centre and the entitlement of the ICT coordinator. Yet with the strong support of the alumni, PTA, and the Board of Governors, we are able to rise to the status of a Smart School and achieved a 5 star ranking last year. The SSQS is a set of qualifying standards produced by the MOE and MDeC to gauge the extent a school has implemented ICT enabled initiatives in its core processes especially teaching & learning and human capital development. Only very few schools can achieve this ranking and almost all of them are the government sponsored Smart Schools. ssqs_2011

MBSSKL has commendable results for the PMR 2011. With an average grade of 1.67, it is still one the top 10 schools in KL though it is a slight drop from the historical best of 1.59 of 2010. A total of 200 students sat for this examination this year and of these, 26% scored straight A’s while 41.5% had either 7A’s or 8A’s. Most subjects saw a slight deterioration in terms of average grade compared to 2010. The graphs depict the school’s average grade from 2000-2011 and the percentage of students with straight A’s. The detailed analysis of every subject can be downloaded from here.
