Four MBS top students for the SPM 2010 were awarded the Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Loy Hean Heong Merit Scholarship 2011. Chen Weng Hoe (5A+, 4A, 2A-), Chang Te Sheng (9A+, 1A), Chong Kar Yoong (5A+, 4A, 2B+), and Jeremy Phua Kok Peng (3A+, 4A, 3A-) were amongst the 778 students who receive this scholarship which totaled RM3million this year. Weng Hoe and Te Sheng are presently doing the Cambridge A Levels while Kar Yoong and Jeremy Phua are pursuing the South Australian Matriculation program. MBSSKL is proud of announce that 87 of the 109 candidates who sat for the STPM in 2010 secured places in local universities, giving it a success rate of 80%. Congratulations to all and a big thank you to all the dedicated Form 6 teachers of MBSSKL. There were surprises, as there were a few candidates with good CGPA but yet did not secure a place. RHB-Mighty Minds competition is held every year which tests the knowledge, skills and creativity of students in the field of science. For the second time since its inception in 2009, MBSSKL clinched the champion title, this time for the under 15 category. The boys, Albert, Nishan and Marcus will be pitted against the champions of other states in the national finals in October. For more information please click here.
MBSSKL obtained improved results for the SPM 2010. The overall performance, measured by the average grade of the school, improved from 3.32 in 2009 to 3.26 in 2010, giving MBSSKL a top 10 position in KL. The number of students with straight A’s this year is 16 compared to 15 last year and one student had 9A+. About 44% of the students obtained 5A’s or more compared to 45% in 2009. A total of 97.22% of the students obtained full certificates compared to a 100% in 2009, as five of the 180 students failed in their Bahasa Malaysia. MBS boy, Ian Barr is a swimming marvel who has represented Malaysia in the Asian and Commonwealth Games. He makes headlines again in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council Swimming Meet in Malacca. MBS Boy Ling Xiao Chun made the school proud by scoring 5As and emerging as one the top 4 students in the nation. Only 4 students in the country scored all As in the 13 papers and he is one of them. Honoured by the Ministry of Education in a ceremony on 21 February 2011, Xiao Chun attributes his success to the dedication of the teachers and the constant encouragement and support given by them. Aspiring to be a doctor, he is now applying to some of the top universities in the world. MBSSKL also emerges as the top school in KL with the largest number of students who scored a CGPA of 2.67 or more. More than 50% of the students scored a CGPA of 3.0 or more, compared to only 23.19% nationally. The school CGPA of 2.82 is also the best since 2002, placing it as the top 47 schools in the nation for STPM. More than 80% of MBSSKL students are expected to obtain places in the local universities.
