MR. WONG’S RETIREMENT REPORT

Posted on Oct 23rd 2017 at 11:34am under Events by sharipah

Go Forward, Beloved Sir!
After devoting 12 years of service to Methodist Boys Secondary School Kuala Lumpur (MBSSKL) as its principal, Mr. Wong Chee Kheon took a last bow to tumultuous applause as he bade farewell to his beloved school on the 17th June 2017.
Mr. Wong Chee Kheon started off as a teacher and then moved on to become a school inspector before working briefly in a stint at Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan as part of the Smart School Project Team. A vacancy then led to him to his first principal post for a fleeting 22 months in SMK Bandar Baru Sri Petaling before he was posted to MBSSKL where he served ardently for 12 years as principal.
Throughout his years in MBSSKL, Mr. Wong brought about numerous advancements and improvisations. Through his indefatigable assiduousness, MBSSKL was awarded the, “Cluster School of Excellence” title in 2008. With the feasible mechanisms that he employed, he led MBS through a glorious path – one of the top 10 schools in Kuala Lumpur for SPM and STPM, numerous national level winners in co-curriculum activities namely Robotics and Chess tournaments, and a remarkable feat would be when MBSSKL became the first government school to offer IGCSE in English in the country. Being awarded the ISO 9001 Certificate in 2014, the school also had international collaborations with Methodist College Hong Kong since 2010.
Needless to say, the legacy that Mr. Wong had carved into the history books of MBSSKL made him deserving of an outstanding retirement celebration. Among the long list of distinguished guests were representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Board of Governors, the Methodist Council, the Methodist Church, the MBSSKL Alumni and principals from various schools in KL. The representative from the Ministry of Education and the Board of Governors presented Mr. Wong with a certificate in appreciation for his endeavors. A special video montage that encompassed Mr. Wong’s 12 years of memorable journey in MBSSKL including pictures with his family was screened. There was a plethora of dance performances on display showcasing the students’ talent. The icing on the cake was the rendition of 2 songs by Mr. Wong, “Seasons in the Sun” and “Words” and there was thunderous applause when his wife shared the stage with him to sing these songs.
In his final speech to the school, Mr. Wong reiterated his motto, “Always strive to do the right thing“. He expressed his fervent admiration of Mother Theresa and how her altruistic actions were always an inspiration to him. Mr. Wong was showered with gifts from guests, teachers and the fact that many former boys had taken the time and effort to join in the celebration clearly signifies Mr. W ong’s impact on their lives.
Finally, Mr. Wong was escorted by the MBSSKL Boys’ Brigade band to bid adeiu before he was finally driven off in a Porsche – A classy ending to the era of a visionary principal. May he be blessed by the Almighty in his new journey. -ORA ET LABORA-
