MBSSKL Achieves 5 Star As A Smart School

Posted on Feb 8th 2011 at 9:55pm under Announcements by wongck

ssqs 5 starMBSSKL has long been acknowledged as having a edge in the implementation of ICT compared to many schools. This advancement is mainly self made, as we are not entitled to many privileges of other government schools like the computer laboratory, the self-access centre and the entitlement of the ICT coordinator. Yet with the strong support of the alumni, PTA, and the Board of Governors, we are able to rise to the status of a Smart School with careful planning and implementation. Today, MBSSKL is officially recognised as a Smart School with a 5 star rating – the highest under the Smart School Qualification Standard (SSQS) set by the Ministry of Education and MDeC. Only very few schools can achieve this ranking and almost all of them are the government sponsored Smart Schools. But we have to continuously maintain our standards as we will be monitored and assessed by the MOE on a yearly basis.

UNSW International Competition and Assessment for Schools – MBSSKL Shines Again

Posted on Dec 26th 2010 at 7:38pm under Announcements by wongck

UNSW 2010 009For many years running, MBSSKL remains a top school in the University of New South Wales International Competitions & Assessments for Schools. For 2010, MBSSKL received a prize for outstanding participation award during the medal presentation on the 13th November 2010. In this competition, A UNSW Gold medal is awarded in each subject in each year in each country when the top score is judged to be sufficiently meritorious. It is no easy feat to be a gold medalist as very often the gold medalist in our country is also amongst the very best of the participating neighbouring countries. Albert Ang Keliang of Form 2M does us proud this year by winning the gold medal for Science.
On the whole, our students did well with a number of High Distinction scorers for the following subjects. We have 3 students scoring High Distinction for Mathematics: Foo Jun Hoe (U6K), Liew Tuck Onn (3M), Albert Ang Keliang (2M), 5 for English: Quah Zhong Yao (4C), Thang Wei Xiong (4C), Jeremy Loo Kah Yow (3M), Vigknaraja Jagathesan (3M), Lee Zi Sheng (2M), 3 for Science: Albert Ang Keliang (2M), Nishan Ravi Nekoo (2E), Liew Tuck Onn (3M) and Computer Skills: Nishan Ravi Nekoo (2M). Only the top 1% of entrants in each year level in each participating country will be awarded the High Distincion.
The success of any of our students is the cumulative effect of the encouragement, support, hard work and strong academic basic groundwork given by the teachers, staffs and PTA. Our students’ success is certainly our success too. Go Forward MBS!

PMR 2010: Another Historical Best For MBSSKL

Posted on Dec 26th 2010 at 1:50pm under Announcements by wongck

PMR 2010 is another historical best for MBSSKL. The average grade of the school, a measure of the overall results is at 1.59, the best so far. Most of the subjects also were at the historical best. Bahasa Melayu is at the historical best in terms of percentage of A’s. History, Geography, Mathematics, Science and Industrial Arts are the historical best in terms of average grade and percentage of A’s. This can be attributed to the hard work of the teachers and the students and not forgetting the support of the stakeholders – PTA, Alumni, School Board and the Methodist Education Council. Congratulations and thank you to all concern.
Nevertheless, the percentage of straight A’s has fallen from 37.38% to 21.79% mainly due to Mandarin, in which many would-be straight A’s students got a B. This subject fared one of the worst in its history with the percentage of A’s at mere 15.49% compared to 48.75% previously. A post mortem will be held to gauge this decline and serious steps will be taken to alleviate the problems identified. The detailed results from 2000-2010 can be downloaded or viewed HERE. Go Forward MBS!!
